Background:
SPECIAL PATHOGENS RESEARCH NETWORK (SPPARE-NET or Spparenet) LTD is a not-for-profit organization at war against preventable mortality and poverty due to diseases associated with special pathogens. High rates of morbidity, mortality and poverty due to illnesses associated with special pathogens in resource poor countries remains high. Febrile illness, anemia, opportunistic infections in the immuno-compromised, gastro-intestinal and central nervous system diseases, chronic delayed-healing ulcers, filariasis and helminthiasis among others continues to torment resource poor country residents due in part to the embarrassing challenge of poor resources. Giving the ordinary citizens a better and a more meaningful life is possible when a society free of untimely death due to preventable diseases associated with the identified special pathogens is established.
Why the war against Special Pathogens?
The reasons why we are fighting against Special Pathogens includes but not limited to the facts that they are:
1. Involved in severe but preventable diseases; 2. Not routinely tested for in resource poor countries; 3. Limited updates on surveillance, epidemiology, socioeconomic and demographic data on special pathogens and associated tropical diseases and 4. Limited intervention against disease outcomes due to poor resource
The scope of this war!
SPPARE-NET LTD is and will continue to be actively and deeply involved in any result-oriented innovative activities directly or indirectly aimed at improving the diagnosis, management, prevention and control of special pathogens related tropical diseases. Identified Special Pathogens may include but not limited to:
